The Raw and Processed Meat and Poultry Inspection Marks, Icons and Labels That The USDA Forgot to Provide
The USDA doesn’t provide edible vector files for their Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) marks. Really, no lie. I had several clients who needed them so I made my own. Now you can enjoy them too. These are Illustrator editable files so you’ll need Adobe Illustrator to change the EST and P numbers.
Download the Free Editable Vector USDA (FSIS) EST Inspection Mark Icon for Processed Meat
On the EST icon/bug inspection mark on processed products, you just need to swap out the EST. (processing plant) number.
Download the Free Editable Vector USDA (FSIS) Inspection P Mark Icon for Poultry
On the inspection mark on poultry just swap the P number (poultry) number for your product.
The fonts are Akzindenz-Grotesk BQ.
And if you need someone to design your product package, email me or call 831-566-3046 to get started.

OMG, this is of huge help! Thank you so much. Why can’t the USDA get it together?
Clay Butler
I’m secretly hoping they steal this file and post in on their website. It’s funny when these big government agencies can’t even do something so simple as providing the official file for their official symbol.

Thanks sooo much. I can’t believe USDA website doesnt have them.

This is fabulous! Thank you.
Tom Quinn
Thanks. I saved the PDF, converted it to Microsoft Word and was able to make adjustments.
Thanks, Tom

Who knew? Well, I learn something new everyday.

You’re a live saver! Thank you!

You’re welcome.

Huge ‘THANK YOU!’

I cannot get this to import into my label machine on my computer. I don’t understand what I am doing wrong.
Clay Butler
You may be doing nothing wrong. Perhaps the file is not compatible with the label machines software. Also, you don’t want to use this file as is. You need to update it with your own information by editing it in Illustrator. From there you can export to any file type you need.

Thank you so much for saving me the headache of generating these on my own!
Caleb
Do you have this in .ai format?
Clay Butler
No. But it’s not necessary. It’s an Illustrator editable PDF file. No different than AI. I put a note in the file.

So does it matter what number you pick?
Clay Butler
You don’t pick a number. It’s literally the plant number.

How do I get a plant number?
Paul Pomes, DVM
An establishment (plant) number is assigned when the USDA issues a Grant of Inspection to your plant. Using the seal without having a Grant is a federal crime. To obtain a grant, start by searching for USDA FSIS form 5200-2. You’ll need to prepare several sets of documents before the Grant is issued namely Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) and a Hazard Analysis, Critical Control Point (HACCP) plan for each product line.

Do you know the minimum size requirement for the USDA Meat mark?
Clay Butler
Sorry, I don’t.
Yelhsa
This is the second time I’ve downloaded this logo (for two different clients). I truly appreciate you creating this! …Now to tell my client they NEED a plant number…

Thanks Paul!

Hi Paul. Thanks for all this! Is there a minimum size for the legend, depending on the package size perhaps?
Carsten
My thanks for this!. As a little extra irony, the link to your site was provided by our IIC.
Clay Butler
That is really funny. I guess it proves my point that the USDA has really dropped the ball on providing this file.
Valeria
Hi Clay, I recently opened a small sausage company. I’m a one person operation, I don’t have Adobe and I have limited computer skills. Can you please put my establishment number into the legend and forward to me?
Thank you!
Jim
Good evening!
Yours might be the site and expertise that might provide the “for amusement only” image, for which I’ve searched, in vain.
I’d love to get a “USDA REJECTED” image, in the Official Stamp format, for both tee shirt and possible tattoo imagery purposes.
Nothing with a fraudulent “official Plant Number” on it though, of course.
Does the USDA even have a “REJECTED” stamp that they’d use? If not, well, this can be their first!
Oh, and it might even become a new Blog Header, too. And if so, I’d be proud to properly Credit the Artist, at the very least. (I don’t do any blogging for $$$, other than the old PayPal tip jar, now long dead).
Last question. Are there Official USDA “Ink Colors” (Pantone Chart Numbers?), for those stamps? I’d like to get it as Right as Possible, just because.
Thanks in advance for your reply, and certainly, for any help you might provide.
Sincerely,
Jim
